Why isn’t a specific artist’s mix up on the site?
There could be a lot of reasons for this. Sometimes a DJ plays a lot of unreleased stuff and they can’t have it getting out there just yet. Sometimes the DJ didn’t feel they played up to their standards and don’t want it out there. Record Labels / Agents will sometimes tell us we can’t put a mix up and/or to take it down. A lot of time time when a live recording is done with like vocals or live instruments they don’t want it up either because it will never sound as good as it does in the studio. The artist may want to listen to it first or delay it’s release for one reason or another, and in that case they will usually come out at a later time. Also sometimes the recording gets messed up or it’s clipped and distorted too much and it’s just not good enough to release in one way or another.

What do you guys use to record?
We use the record out (RCA) of a DJM-800 into a Behringer Xenyx mixer (this is not what the main PA System uses, this is just to record). We also have a Samson Cardioid Microphone hung from the ceiling to pick up audience noise. This goes into Mic Pre 1 with a boost on the mids. We then have a Dual RCA to 1/8" Stereo jack going into an Iriver H320 Portable MP3 Recorder. We record at 320 KBPs Stereo MP3 and sample down for the website.

What kind of equipment is standard at Focus?
Currently we have 3 Pioneer CDJ-2000s (linked via ethernet) + Pioneer DJM-800 & 2 Technics 1200 M3D (when requested) and 2 600 watt passive 15″ monitors with B&C drivers.

Did "Dj Name Here" Mess Up and Train Wreck?
Probably not…but maybe. You have to realise this is a live club. Things happen, like Turntables getting bumped, Records skipping, CD Skipping and anything else you can think of. Generally what you’re hearing is "Accidents Happening"

What is Focus?
Focus is a club on Tuesday nights in Orange County, California. If you want some more info on the club check out www.focus-oc.com

Can I get a Track Listing or Track ID of a specific song in a mix?
Maybe :-). It all depends. Try leaving a comment asking for the specific track and what time it comes in and if it’s by one of our resident DJs they can almost definitely give you an answer there. If it’s by one of the headliners if you post up the question either somebody there will know or we can do our best to find out for you.

I can’t stream the mixes
Make sure you have the most up to date version of flash

I can’t download the mixes
Try right clicking and save target as. Then pick a place to save the file (Desktop is usually the easiest)
then open it from there when it’s finished.

When I click download it just opens inside my browser
Make sure you "Right Click, Save Target As" you probably have QuickTime taking over your audio files.

How do I subscribe to the podcast?
Just click the podcast icon on the top of the page. The most popular format is iTunes so install iTunes on your system and then click that itunes podcast logo at the top of the page and it will automatically bring up the podcast page in itunes. There are many other podcast / RSS Feed Reading software out there. If you google the topic of podcasting you can learn quite a bit on the subject.

Can i burn these mixes to a regular CD (Audio)
Well yes and no. A regular audio CD can only hold 74 minutes of music (sometimes 80 depending on the CD). Usually the format is: the opening DJ Gets approx 60-90 minutes, middle DJ gets 60 minutes and headlining dj gets 90-120 minutes. So you’ll have to edit the headlining DJ mix if you want to fit it onto an Audio CD. You can us Audacity (Click to download) to edit the files down to your liking. It’s a free program to edit audio files. It’s tough which end to pick because DJs usually play their best stuff at the beginning and end, but it’s your call all you gotta do is get it to be under 80 (or 74) minutes and it will burn on a CD as one long song.

curious to know regarding your recording…

does the Samson Mic pick up just the crowd, or do you have to mixdown to eliminate audio from the house system it picks up?

also, which Behringer Xenyx model do you use, and what do you have the Iriver plugged into?

    Thanks :)
